Well Water Treatment in Princeton, Potlatch & Harvard
If you're on a well along the Highway 6 corridor — Princeton, Potlatch, Harvard, or the timber country in between — you're in some of the most challenging well water territory on the Palouse. I'm Trent, based just down the road in Moscow, and this corridor is a regular part of my service area. I test the water on-site, in front of you, and design treatment around your well's actual numbers.
What wells run into out here
This end of Latah County sits where Palouse loess meets timbered mountain ground, and the wells reflect it. What I routinely find on jobs in this area:
- High manganese — often the dominant problem out here, not just a sidekick to iron. Black slime in toilet tanks, gray staining, bitter taste. It's harder to remove than iron and defeats most off-the-shelf "iron filters."
- Iron — the familiar orange-red staining, frequently riding along with the manganese.
- Hardness — scale on fixtures and water heaters, dry skin, spotted dishes.
- Coliform bacteria — common on older wells and shallow casings in this area, especially after wet springs. It changes the whole treatment design, so it needs to be known up front, not discovered later.
- Organics and tannins — timber-country ground can tint water and bind iron in ways that make standard filters underperform. This is a frequent reason a previous system "never really worked."
Buying property out here?
A lot of my Princeton–Potlatch work starts with a real estate transaction. The basic test a lender requires often skips manganese, pH, and tannins entirely — the exact things most likely to be wrong on this corridor. A complete picture before closing gives you negotiating leverage and a real treatment budget instead of a surprise. I can usually turn testing around fast enough for a closing timeline, and I work with realtors on rural transactions regularly.
